I've had some recent problems with identity theft and would rather not have a Paypal account. Do most sellers on ebay take credit cards? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

well, most do not, some do. I've heard of some people just attaching a savings account to their paypal account, and only keep enough in the account for each purchase. That way there is no credit card involved, and if your info is hacked, there is no money in the account to steal.

I've had my share of problems with credit cards over the years, but never with the Paypal M/C, which I use at least 50 times a month.

I agree that many ebay sellers only accept PayPal so you really limit yourself regarding sellers. I've never had a problem with Paypal and AMEX. I've had Visa cards hacked seven or eight times in the past two years. Others may have a very different story to share.

I won't do business with sellers that don't accept PayPal; saw one that wanted you to call him and give him your CC info to run it via the phone if you wanted to purchase the item...no thanks. Back when ebay was getting a cut of all those merchant account fees sellers were required to accept PayPal. I'm pretty sure this is no longer the case since the "Decoupling." My PayPal account is >15 years old and has not had a single issue that whole time, it's an original business account (before the change was made to the newer account types.)

The biggest concern in my opinion with a paypal account would be if you used an insecure password, or if you used the same password as another account that gets hacked or if your email gets hacked they could possibly take over your paypal account.
Use different passwords for your email and paypal and make them as secure as possible, and dont put those passwords into other 'insecure' sites and you should be okay.

Actually I've never ever had any problems with Paypal as far as security about my credit cards being linked with my checking account I use when I purchase coins.

My BFF had his Paypal account hacked and they got $1000. Paypal did not give a poopy-doo until he mentioned he had already done a charge-back. Because of the hacking and the 'could care less' attitude, he closed his account. I closed my account because Paypal cost me $40. Not a large amount, but their platform was glitchy and I got out. ebay was lockstep with them. Never looked back. Monetize this, losers.
