I have seen some really nice pictures of DCAM coins online such as:

I have recently bought a coin that I believe might be DCAM and want to take a picture that will show the mirror/satin contrast on the coin. However, whenever I take a photo I cannot get the mirror surface to be the dark black color seen above, it always looks like:

How does one get that deep black color on the mirror surface of the coin?

My iPhone is black, so I hold the phone directly above the coin and take a photo... But, I suppose that building some type of "Light Box" with black felt at the top would work too?

Keep your light source lower than your camera to avoid getting a reflection on the coin. Lighting is arguably the most important aspect of coin photography, and slight changes can greatly improve an image.

WeLikeIke hello playing around a little this evening. this is a bright nickel quarter. the surface is slightly marked. this is the closes with out a lots of charcoal drawing paper around the coin. see if you put this drawing paper all around your coin. then you get what you are asking for. see the coin will pull the dark colour down on to the flat surface of the coin. that way you will get what you are trying to do. here's my coin using the canon t1i the dime I believe is close to what you are looking for. it was taken with a canon camera as well

WeLikeIke if you would like take another photo of your coin. ray tells us to use a mirror. to get your lens in perfect alignment with your coin. bring the lightning at 10 and 2 o'clock put lots of diffusion double a Kleenex. post the image here and let me work with it. I think I can get it close if you like to try.
