Seller has some questionable coins for sale. This one just looks odd.

I don't see anything that jumps out at me and screams I'm Fake.

The mintmark is odd. It may have been altered from an S mint coin.

If seller is pushing fakes, they've been lucky to get 1300+ 100% positive FB so far. They sell a lot of slabbed coins, bulk junk Wheats/IHCs, "unsearched roll" garbage, etc. but nothing that jumps out at me as highly suspicious.

This does fit the pattern of some coin sellers I know who buy complete albums, strip the key dates and then resell the rest either as singles if nice enough/key dates or as junk/cull/"unsearched" lots if not.

Someone should look at the seller's 1922 "No D" and see if that holds water.

The 1922 No D is clearly a fake, I started a thread on this on the Moderns forum.

Anybody else notice that all three of the Sellers questionable coins (09-S, 22-plain cents and 16-D dime) are all in cardboard 2x2's with poor photos?

Amazing how he can supply great photos of coins not in holders!

Okay, first off I would almost never buy a coin that rare raw. Secondly, I would never buy a rare coin, even worth $15, with those kinds of pictures. FAKE!

And it sold. And sold for $515 with 27 bids. Just don't know why people do that. If it was real, why not have it slabbed and then too it would sell faster and for more. One of the most counterfeited coins on Earth too.

Even if fake, and even if buyer submits it for grading and it comes back fake, there will be no way to hit the originator of this listing after the fact.

It is up to us to spot these fakes and take action early.

Always amazes me to see sellers risking their life blood / income by making really stupid decisions such as listing fakes.

Why would you ruin your business and your reputation to make a couple thousand bucks by scamming?

And that's the best argument. If the coins were genuine, they'd sell for much more holdered.
