Good morning, Do you think this coin is counterfeit? It is gray in color and has rim damage but only weighs 4.7gr. The coin on the left weighs 6.2 normal. Thanks

I honestly don't know. But my take is that if it is counterfeit, it's worth more than a non counterfeit.

Looks like it could be a sand cast counterfeit, but is also possibly a quarter struck on a quarter size planchet made from dime stock, which would be thinner. This would be known as a "wrong stock error" - and they are known to exist for a number of different issues....whether they are known for 1937 quarters is beyond my scope of study.

How about the sound of the coin? Does it ring like a struck coin, or does it have a more lead-like or pewter-like "dead" noise?

Can you take edge comparison photos of the two coins?

The coin looks like a counterfeit. Dime stock would weigh 2.50 gms.

I've seen fake quarters, and halves and this one does indeed have the appearance of a cast copy.

It's not any thinner then the other quarter and it does sound like silver but duller. Here is a pic. Bottom coin is the one in question.
Thanks

I am not an expert, or even close, but my opinion of the "coin" in question, is as Bill, and Chuck, a sand cast. The edge view just confirms this. If it IS silver, then it would be worth merl. Also if a counterfeit, it is not legal to sell as a real thing. the date doen't seem to have any additional merit, so stash it with the family silver heirlooms. silver is on it's way up again.
