thought this one looked pretty decent. Seller says VF and I thought it has a shot at xf40. How would you grade it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1837-plain-...p=true&rt=nc

I can't quite get to EF40. I'm nearer VF35, maybe a hair lower. It's a very eye appealing LC and worth what you paid and then some, good eye.

I agree, not quite EF40, but very, very close.
The eye appeal and color really compensate, and certainly worth the price you paid.

Awfully close. Wouldn't surprise me to see it in a 40 holder.

received coin today. Color looked a bit lighter than sellers photos. More tan less red. Problem I have with it is the rim. It is not the same color all the way around it. There is an area thats almost black near another area thats more untoned red looking. Possibly recolored?
