I am very interested in these two coins given to us by my wife's grandfather. I know nothing about coins so I was hoping to get any info about coins.

Is their value simply the melt value? How are or sought after? Apologies in advanced for dumb questions.

... I'll tell a mod to move this to the main classic forum.for more attention.

What you have here are 2 very common coins which on their own aren't worth much. But you have an ace in the hole... they are both in very early pcgs rattler and pci photo slabs which are HIGHLY collected and should add a nice little premium to those common coins.

The holders are collectible, but would just caution about how highly collectible to avoid a let down.

According to Numismedia Fair Market Value the Peace dollar is worth $32 and the Morgan is worth $55.

Most of us think those prices are higher than we would normally pay.

You can do an advanced search on ebay to find out the sold prices of similar coins in similar holders.

very cool! thank you for the information!

Are the numbers associated with the coins of significance? Besides the grading the others appear to be serial numbers of some kind...

I found similar Morgans (same case and grade) on ebay going for at least 50ish, some higher not many lower. Surprisingly, I didn't find any of the Peace dollars in those thype of cases does that mean it's ultra rare? :)
Rest in Peace

Your wife's Grandfather gave you two pieces of numismatic history of sort. These are examples of silver dollars graded by third party grading services back in their infancy and there are collectors that seek out these types of graded coins because of the added history of the holders and sometimes pay a slight premium. If I were you I would get to know your wife's Grandfather a little better. This may be a test to look for someone interested in collecting.

And to CCF

No, because the coin isn't rare. There is a slight premium for the collectible holder.
