Oh man d700, I finally got around to vamming the orange monster I got at long beach and it wasnt hard... she's an R-6 freakin Thornhead

I have it at 1B6 which is the most common of the Thornhead die states but still only a relative handful exist! Let alone being a firey orange / red moster!

I go cherrypicking for a couple of hours and find nothing noteworthy but the first morgan I bought 30mins into the show because it's a 21 with awesome toning that I didn't even check... is a nice one!

I must be one of the most dumb luck-iest guy around!

Thanks. Now I have a conundrum. Do I want to send it to pcgs or ngc? I usually like my toners in pcgs slabs, which all mine are in, but I think the neon monochrome with full coverage will pop more with a white background. I think I'll go with ngc and send it with my kennedy c&cs

Also, do you think the vw page should be updated dave? The profile doubling seems too strong to not be mentioned. Heck it looks like a poor-man's hot lips! You can see it on the second coin plate photo though. The first dosent seem to have the doubling but it could just be too worn?

Sure looks MS63ish to me. As for updating the VW page, you may want to ask that question on the VW message board. Like you said, some examples show the dbl profile and others not so much. Check out this plate of V15E which was the first use of the thorn obverse die.http://www.vamworld.com/file/detail...hi-obv-3.jpg

BTW, I posted mine a while back.https://goccf.com/t/102046&whichpage=188

Ya, I have it at 63ish too but we'll see what the TPG says. I'll update after... I haven't done anything interactive with VW yet so maybe I should start with this one? Your Thornhead looks to be one of the 1b5's. How's that circulated list dansco coming along?

I'm not sure about the VAMworld thing. Wish Ddave would stop by and chime in about that part.
I'm calling mine a 1B4, it's a little roughed up but sufficient for my circulated set, for now. Which, is going slow but sure. It's amazing how difficult it is to find decent well circulated examples of the common Philly issues.

Look what was in my mailbox when I got home yesterday

I am going to enjoy having this one in my collection and enjoy seeing the premium it will bring down the road when I'm ready to let it go

I'd say that I might want to do a monster toned thornhead set but I think that's probably a total pipe dream

You know it!

Hey dave, if you had to hazard a guess what do you think it would go for in say a Heritage Auction? I'm thinking $500+ but that awesome and thick "solar" toning puts it in such a different class I don't know how to properly evaluate an estimate for my books. I still haven't signed up for the ssdc yet. I think we need to make that our new year's resolutions lol

And I must say, the colors photograph better and are much more true to the in hand look in the slab for some strange reason. The op pics are somewhat flat and lifeless compared to in hand while the slabbed pics are more trie being deep and rich with more color play

Glad you like the results on this one. It is a very attractive coin for a 21-S. Usually those tone ugly, and this is anything but. I agree with your need to join the SSDC, but then I'm a little biased. We do offer a scholarship to the ANA Summer Seminar, open to SSDC members, assuming the ANA schedules the Morgan dollar class again this year.
