So I found a 1979 D Penny that is the same color as a 1943 steel penny except it's not magnetic, what could it be?

Plated... or... look up on youtube (sorry its been a long time and I don't have the link) but there is also a video there for making "gold" and "silver" pennies through chemical reactions. It just changes the surface - and of course - not to real gold and silver.

Probably plated. I have seen a couple of these in CRHing. Somewhat common, but cool nonetheless.

Same answer, it's quite common for people to experiment on pennies, that's what you have.

I suspect that coin was done by an Alchemist. Possibly turned Copper into pure Silver or even Platinum.
OR made with White Gold by the US Mint to confuse us all.
OR just some kids messing around in a Chem lab by plating that thing.

I agree. It is a rather inexpensive canvas.

Could be. I once used a black marker on cents when I was a kid.
