I currently am putting together a type set and would like to include some rare coins in this collection. Is there a publication which ranks coins in the order of rarity? Do I have to judge for myself
based on population and number certified? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

Almost any coin values publication or RedBook will tell you what you want to know. Even online values will be informative. I have a "Coin Prices" magazine for Jan. 2003 that has all the mintages and prices for every denomination minted up until then. At $3 it has been very useful.

Just use the Red Book. Go to each type of coin and look for the lowest minted. Might not be 100% but sure is close enough.

Are you talking about modern coins only?

That's not always necessary true. I would go through the Red Book and look at the most expensive type coin.
