Why are there so many different prices on error coin. when certain books with one price ,recommend you to other books and site for more input and they like a 180 degrees turn on their price list ?

Thanks

Variation I suppose. Books give a potential spot price but the prices/values are not static. Web sites are likely in better position to adjust daily/hourly where as books that are hard copies are a snapshot in time.

Also, some sites inflate value. Most varieties out there command a fraction of listed values. Going to ebay Coins to see how they have been valued/sold for might be a better indicator on what you might expect.
Rest in Peace

Error coins are unique and worth whatever the market will bear. However, the condition of the coin matters just the same as it would for a non-error coin.

There are other variables as well. For instance an off-center coin with a date is worth more than an off-center coin without a date.

Die varieties and die states (chips, gouges, cracks) can have values that vary for the same reasons.

There is a wide variation of opinion in the minds of the editors of error price lists, on the estimation of demand for various error coins.
There is even a variation on the degree of error for various error types.
These are two of probably many factors that may affect the price of a particular error coin.

Your best ally in the estimation of a particular error coin is your own opinion on what you may find to be valuable, backed up with your own experience and those of others and the examination of price lists.
After all, the price lists are based on the experience of the editor of the price list.

The pricing of errors in some cases can be very subjective.
