Recently I bought a 1911 penny from asynpm. It was stated as 'BU Luster', and it looks like BU luster: However when I tile the coin under the light, in one angle I can see something: It looks like polished in one direction, but I'm just wondering how a polished coin can still have luster. So my question is, is it really caused by polishing or it is original, and the traces come from before mint?

You take your chances buying from asypm, sure looks a cleaned coin.

It sure looks cleaned to me but asynpm does state very generous grades to most all his coins so you have to grade them on your own often from poor quality pictures. Interested in hearing what others have to say.
Cheers, Bill

Looks like a problem coin to me. Quote: You take your chances buying from asypm This says it all (with the correct spelling).

Yup, you are rolling the dice with asyn, learned that lesson the hard way when I first started collecting. I thought the MS-67's were such a great deal at 2-4x FV, amazingly the prices (incl shipping) are higher than they were before, even with more conservative grade identification. I think one day a lot of people will be sad to learn their ASYN MS-67 is actually an AU50 worth FV.
To be fair, I am happy with some of the specimen sets at 1.25x FV and silver coins I got from the various auctions. Though, I know stay away and no longer search.
Sorry about your coin, if you paid a decent amount, it might be worth returning or opening a "not as described case". Otherwise chalk this one up to experience.

In the first photo, it looks like some minor wear on the vertical jewels up the crown .. the highest part of the Obverse.

Yes .. the lines showing are NOT die polishing. It's harsh cleaning

Thanks everyone. It's some loss but not very serious. I already took it out from the asyn holder so probably it's not very good to return it. Another thing I noticed is the the rim on this side is actually worn out badly. The reverse side is much better.

It's a shame. Your coin definitely shows signs of cleaning and the 'wear' on the vertical jewels in the crown are a sure sign of some type of circulation. It is too bad you removed it from the original holder as the seller would no doubt refuse a refund due to the removal. Edited to add: a friendly and trustworthy coin dealer once advised me to be very careful of "BU" coins as the BU might mean "Been Used". I've never forgotten that advice.

I'd return it for a complete refund. Any problem with that, then negative feedback is warranted.

I would still contact seller, let them know the issue, if the response is "too bad, so sad", open a not as described case, you will get your money back, open package or not.

I would try soaking the coin in acetone & see if anything comes off. Some older coins were lacquered by collectors a long time ago. Brush marks in lacquer can mimic the effect of a coin being harshly cleaned.
