The first thing I get from this coin is that it is very off color. It's almost charocoal color. I then flip it over, and the bottom of the Jefferson memorial is straight. The words are kind of rippled to. Anyone know what it is and or if it's worth more than a nickle. I put a circulated 1981 along side for comparison. It's not chipped off either.

Environmental toning, US Cu-Ni coins are more prone to that than Canadian pure nickel coins.

The deformation is interesting... no doubt PMD, but not quite sure how...

I Think this is a struck through error. (grease) At first I thought it was distorted along the base line, but the porch is slightly lower. Also the MONTECELLO is weak in that area as well. So that is what I think the cause is. Strong Grease Fill in that part of the die.
