Great note - please tell us how you grade and value it, and how you came across it. Guessing EF?

Thank you!

I would put it around EF to choice EF, value is difficult,
I've had offers ranging from $700-$1000, but it's hard to let go!

There is some general staining and very slight edge wear,
as well as a very light horizontal fold and upper left hand corner fold.
A tiny crease in the lower left corner as well.

Paper quality is excellent on this, it's one of my favorites.

I saw a raw EF example (also very nice looking) go for $780 at an ebay auction this past weekend, although I have also seen EFs go in the $450-550 range several times in the last couple of years. For some reason I have always found the $5 star more difficult to locate.

Generally speaking, most of the basic North Africa and Hawaii star notes in all denominations are not difficult to find in circulated condition, with the exception of the Hawaii $20, which still pops up now and then at an affordable price. Their value is enhanced by their "type note" status among collectors of small size stars.

It's true, I think the last time I saw a $5 star note was when I worked at New World Rarities in New York about 16 years ago.

I just love the colors on your note there, cerecords. Again, what a fine example.

This was handed to me across the counter at my local bank branch today -

Post-Your-Star-Notes!

This is actually the second $100 star note I've received this past week, the other being a series 2009A #LL05940724 which unfortunately had been at some point folded into roughly the size of a postage stamp!

Lucky Cuss - That's a gift, congrats!

coinfun - What criteria do you use when putting star notes aside? Beware of saving every one that comes along - it's not a good investment.

Nothing special. But it is a birthday note, 3545 years from now.

tech - Some nice early stars there, congrats.

kbbpll - Save it if you like, but it is from a large print run of 3.2 million with little upside potential.
