Concerning the 1928D $2 US Note, there is are TWO Krause-Lemke (KL) catalog numbers; 1617 & 1617A.

Does anyone know the difference between these two?

Thanks.

I think one of them is the regular "non-mule", while the other is the regular "mule".

Most likely mule and non-mule, as Westernsky stated.

Got around to looking it up in the Small Size Currency book and their are two varieties of the 1928-D $2 non-star notes. The non-mule, with front and back plate number fonts the same size, and the mule which has front and back plate number fonts of different sizes.
