This is a 2006P Lincoln.

Notice the "VDB" with the "B" being twisted slightly clockwise and the odd in appearance? Was wondering if any had any insight.

Nothing definitive. The letters can be effected by metal flow, a scratch on the die, a damage after the strike, anything is possible. This is not an unusual occurence.

How is the "VDB" put on the coin? It is part of the die I guess, right? If that is the case, could the "VDB" be a marker for a die variety? I mean, like this coin for instance, if it had a doubling on it or a wavy step line or other noted die variety, couldn't the "oddness" of the "B" in "VDB" be a marker?

Only if the B of the VDB was on the die that way. If it was a damage after the coins was struck (there is no way to tell) then it (The B ) wouldn't have a use as a die marker.

The VDB is raised on the die on modern cents. On the 1909 VDB cents, the V.D.B. was recessed into the die.
