Is this damage or a strike through if its damage what could have caused this ive seen counting wheel damage and this looks different

Hello,

I can't envision harsh die polishing to this extreme as a contributing factor.

It may have been a result of two successive events in the following order;

a. Firstly, an upward-directed hit accounting for the scroll's ERTY absence.

b. Second, then this coin could have been in a stationary position with enough holding force to allow some device to run over it causing the engraving wavy lines.

conclusion: all PMD

? why and what could have caused this and also wouldn't it show damage on more of the coin have to remember this is a dime its very small the weird thing is these lines look like part of the strike they are raised

I agree with the assessment that something struck and scraped this coin after minting. What exactly caused this is speculation at this point. Given the lack of damage on the rims, I'm inclined to think it was hit and scraped with a smaller object like a rock or a tool.

As for the raised lines, they only appear raised because whatever scrapped it gouged the metal and pushed the excess metal aside.
