I know it's my second post and purely on speculation but after the disappointment of the quarter I'm a little desperate for an error coin.
This one is subtle but I've seen similar ones on forums
A 2015 toonie with extra metal around the ridges. Error?

I'll just label this over all and add to it over time.

Nope strike two. This is very common on the two dollar coins.

That is an effect of the edge lettering, seen on most of the new security plated coins.

the term waffling has been tossed about on these coins because of the way it looks where the edge has been struck... you will note that in all places where it "looks" like extra metal it's actually where a letter is... no coincidence..

Glad I stumbled across the thread. Looks like I got just another 2 bucks as well but dated 2016.

That term sounds apt, but is already in use for coins that are intentionally destroyed by a mint using a waffling machine. Waffled coins look very distinctive and have a bit of a collector following of their own. Coins are waffled by mints so that metal recyclers are not tempted to redeem scrapped coins at a bank.
