Without a lighting setup it was really hard to catch the luster of this beauty. Keep in mind that gold is a very soft metal.

I'll guess PCGS gave it MS65.

I am still not sure why they relax standars when grading gold coins. If this was a silver dollar, I would give it a MS62 at best.

It would be nice if the higher grades were a true rarity.

The silver coins must have seen the light of day occasionally, even if not in circulation.
The gold less so, and so the average grade would be bit higher.
I would think, on average, MS64 for gold would be about as common as MS62 for silver.

With the recend bullion sales for the gold $5 and $10, only the better grade coins would have been sold,
the lesser grade examples must have stood a greater chance of being melted.

Lets try PCGS 64+ or higher if the luster is superb.

I could see PCGS being really generous with this coin from what I can see from these scans and previous PCGS examples. I would not be surprised with a 64+.....
