1935 S Peace $ With A Weird S

Found 1935 S Peace dollar and saw that the "S" looked different. I haven't found any information on such a coin. Any idea what this is? It seems to have material above the plane of the "S".

Even though it is a well circulated coin, the aberration does not look like a scratch.

Looks like coin damage on the mint mark. Being silver the metal distorts from circulation easier.
