After opening 50 rolls here are my results: 1- 1993 Canadian cent 5- wheat cents - 1935, 1944S, 1946, 1957D, 1958D 18- 2009's. I haven't looked for double thumbs on the '09s yet. Overall I got a lot more 2009's then I was expecting, but was disappointed with only 5 wheats. Going to get more tomorrow. Happy hunting!

Why do you punish yourself like this, with hopeless odds?

Did you happen to keep a tally of how many pre-1982's you received?

MrClick, you should know by now how frog is all over CRH and other forums trying to force people out of collecting that aren't doing it solely for quick profits. in one paper note thread he even has a defender that will defend him not even knowing or caring that he is doing this.
I would say that box is pretty respectable all thing considered. What were the condition of the 2009s? If they were pretty decent it might explain the lack of wheats since it could have been sitting around a while after the 2009 got put in. If you think of it like the 2009 displaced an even number of wheat, its a pretty good box with half a roll of keepers that weren't just kept as copper.

@Shadz It is sad that someone would look down on another persons hobby. Just a shame

I think they are nice finds. It is the thrill of the hunt. Either you get it or you do not. If not, move along, nothing to read here.

@ACWhammy No I don't/didn't I used to keep copper and I have a tiny stash, something like $5. Realizing how many copper pennies there are still out in circulation, and since I only get $5 a week for allowance, that would drain money really fast. So I quit. Maybe when I have a bigger budget I might start into it again. I would say around 20-25% were copper..

@shadz Most of them were pretty average, a couple nicks here and there, some were in awful condition and 1 or 2 were in pristine condition. I would say, 2 good, 12 average, 4 bad. :)

@snowman24 Yes! Yes I do. I love searching for errors. I haven't found any. (I've only been collecting for 4ish months) On my bucket list of coin errors you could say, is the 2004 Wisconsin high/low leaf, 2000 Wide AM, 2009 Lincoln double thumb, and of course the 1969S double die haha. :)

I've had my share of unexciting boxes and wondered what am I doing? Then you hit that one box.......Well you know how that works.
Happy Hunting!

It's all about the experience, not the profit- there's not too much of that. Anyway, some finds are better than none.

@BenC I will tell you now, those 2 pristine condition 2009 pennies are where your wheat luck went. I might have a roll of each design (not mintmark) and would put none of them as anything but clearly circulated or worse, much worse. That will probably be the last 2009's you see for a few months too. I might see 1 or 2 a box when I get pennies now.

Do whatever you want and what makes you happy for the thrill of the hunt. 5 Wheats in a box isn't that great but, chances are someone else already searched them and took them to the bank. I would not call it punishing yourself but rather call it individual preference of coin hunting. Some day you will find some semi and key dates. I do the same thing and I enjoy searching for errors.
