I seen that before but always though that was Die Deterioration or a just late stage die?

learn something new everyday... more reasons to go back though the cents.

It is Die Deterioration, sort of. It is progressive transfer of design from a lot of striking.

Cool, I'm glad ya'll like it. Ghosting is the slang term for it, and the shortest. Some experts call it Internal Metal Displacement Phenomenon, others call it Progressive Indirect Design Transfer. It can happen on any denomination when the dies are over used. The design of each die is transferred to the other. This happens slowly one strike at a time, right through the coins struck.
Coop, I'd be honored if you'd like to use it as an example coin. To date, I think this may be the only picture I own that looks better than yours.
