This one weighs 1.9 grams so it is likely a New Zealand one cent planchet but if anyone else has any suggestions as to what the planchet could be, please post it here. Thanks!

I don't have a better suggestion, but as I suspect you know the New Zealand is supposed to be 2.05g and that difference is "bigger than a breadbox". But it is still likely what it is.

The 1979 cent on NZ cent is around. I have a 1979 PCGS MS63 RB and I sold an uncertified one maybe MS62 a few months ago. There is at least one more on our site here....a 1980 MS64 RED in SPP's Error Showcase set!

The weight is right on for a Trinidad & Tobago 1972 bronze cent, but the RCM only made those in 1972. The New Zealand planchet is a likely candidate, but those are generally 2.05 g in weight....

It is a good coin, the 1979 cent seems to be the most common (and cheapest to get) of the foreign planchet 1-cent strikes, Jon Sullivan has at least 3 or more for sale at any given time.

The RCM made New Zealand 1c coins from 1978 to 1987. The years other than 1979 seem to be quite scarce.

I haven't weighed the coin yet. 1.9 gr was what was listed on the 2x2. The 2x2 was decades old so I don't know how accurate the weight really is.

Cents struck on New Zealand planchets are relatively common however I have never seen or had one that didn't weigh very close to 2.05 grams. My guess is that your coin actually weighs closer to the 2.05 grams however, if it does weigh 1.9 grams after you weigh it, then I feel it is unlikely to be struck on a New Zealand planchet.......to much deviation in weight.

Update on this coin. The weight is actually 2.01 grams. So that would put it pretty close to the 2.05 grams that a NZ planchet should be. Thanks!
