Hi,

I've been looking for raw UNC shields (I just want one as a type). Does anyone have any tips on buying UNC shields? I don't know much about the series except for mintage numbers.

What do you think about these?

The 1883 looks nice, the 1867 has some issues, one is that it looks like it's been cleaned. Surfaces do not look natural.

I like the first one better, but just beware GSC juices the photos, and have been known to use shill bidders. They do have a nice return policy, but you will lose the shipping costs.
Rest in Peace

Beyond what is already written above, they have quite a following of bidders that are willing to pay above FMV for raw coins. I added them to my "sellers excluded from saved search list" years ago.

I personally do not trust GSC solely based on the fact of their pictures. I would assume it's a very nice coin, but not the one I believed I was bidding on. It would be interesting to compare hand in hand.

I know what you are saying about the seller. Do you think the toning looks ok (not too artificial) on the first one?
