A more obscure modern Mexican coin. The last of this denomination struck in silver (albeit just .300 pure). Produced only in 1950 (a bit over 13½ million) and 1951 (a little more than 3½ million), with a design unique to this issue. Despite the large mintage, you don't see too many, leading me to believe that over the years more than a few of these found their way to the smelter.

This is also one of those coins you find in dealer's junk boxes from time to time for 25 cents a coin. It's easy to confuse it as a copper-nickel coin.

My dealer did that once, but I sure knew it from the second I saw it. Mostly the colour of it though. Agreed this is a coin you don't see every day. Mine is a 1950 piece though.
Here's the whole set of .300 silver:

This coin looks special. Who knows who the man or icon is?

I believe it is Cuauhtemoc (Guatemuz) who took over the Aztec kingdom about the time of Montezuma's death.

yeah I grabbed one of those for about 20 cents. I have a collection starting of the 1960's pesos that are like 10% silver.
