Show started off great, good attendance, plenty of activity. Then at 1:15 the fire alarms went off and they forced us to evacuate the bourse floor and leave the building. Boy you never saw such a slow evacuation. Took 20 minutes to get everyone out of the show floor. Surprise the dealers didn't want to leave, and leave all their coins unattended. Finally got everyone out and we spent 30 minutes outside (in a light sprinkling rain.) Finally they let us back in, and they did one smart thing. They didn't let the public back in until all the dealers were back in. (Might try doing that in reverse next time for the evacuation. Have all the public leave first and then have the dealers leave. Might get more cooperation from the dealers.)

It wasn't a drill. Heard two different stories though. Ether someone pulled the alarm as a prank, or a motor overheated and actually set off the alarm.

I've been through a fire alarm at a show before, but this was my first evacuation.

Wow conder. The dealers must have been hovering over their tables like Gollum with his Precious. Must have been a bit of crazy going on

Whoa....that's pretty darn scary for dealers! The first thing I'd think if I was a dealer is that the alarm was some sort of "scam" to steal. Unless I actually SAW flames and smoke, I'd be hesitant to leave too.

Thanks for sharing.

There are so many false alarms that we get callous about the fire alarms. I can totally understand why the dealers would not want to leave if there was no apparent threat of danger.

Any good finds

Picked up two Conder tokens, one I needed and one I just didn't have. The one I just didn't have was a nice cherry. It was misattributed as a common Middlesex 969. It was actually a 971 which is a R-6 piece (13 - 30 known). Picked up two SEGS sample slabs, and two Trugrade slab varieties I haven't seen before. (Did pick up one other Conder token, a Warwickshire 92 that is supposed to be an R-7 coin, 3 - 12 own. I think it is overrated though because this is my second one.)

The other buy that made the show were three Brazilian leper colony pieces. Twice I have seen full sets at auction but I have never seen a piece at a show, even the international show. Two more Brazilan pieces, one Maricibo, and one Palo Seco and I will have a complete set of all the Leper colony coins and currency except the ones from the Japanese colony. (And those you just NEVER see.)

Great story, one to remember. I am glad everyone was okay and the dealers did not suffer. My little cynic says it was a false alarm generated by some would-be thieves.
