I'm always curious when I run across a coin like this one from the Central American Republic--can it really be an all-original coin? Has it been dipped? A pretty coin with a huge amount of luster.

Leaning toward all-original. The TPG didn't mention "cleaned," and the coin is a little darker toward the rim suggesting a slight amount of toning.

It is hard to imagine that a coin from Central America would be as bright as some of the graded coins seem to be without some kind of mild restoration. It is possible of course but I would say uncommon. Below is an image of one of my Quartillas that appears to be entirely original and with very little toning. The luster is as full as a GSA Carson City dollar.

Here is the one I own - I really like that design :)
And at least, the color is one that I would expect on a such coin .

Most old coins have been cleaned at some point in the past, particularly the high-grade ones which have likely been sitting in collections for most of their existence. So for coins such as this, "uncleaned" usually means "if it was cleaned, it was so long ago, we can't really tell one way or the other". "Old cleaning" is considered "market acceptable", since it's retoned in the intervening years.
