Hello, I bought this 1991 Quarter. Description was BU MS-63. Raw Coin in 2x2. The field on the reverse has parallel lines that look like an SP strike finish. But the lines differ in intensity, they look more pronounced around the Caribou antlers. On the obverse the lines are not as evident. I have taken a number of pictures in high reflection so as to be able to see the field. Can you tell if this is a Specimen Strike or a Business Strike from these pictures? OK great, thanks Pacificoin and OspreyCoins, now, are the fields lined as a result of Die Deterioration?

his lint like lines are quite common on the 1991 and 1992 25 cents. Maybe just some die polishing. Silver Don your coin is a bit baggy on the obverse ...was it taken from an original plastic wrapped roll or pocket change ? Cheers!

No I received it in a 2x2 with 1991 written in pencil. There is lint and hair inside the 2x2 so I think I'll put it in a fresh one. I assume it was graded generously. Got it through CA so it was likely sold to them as part of a lot.

Nice coin, business strike for sure. However, not sure I would agree with an MS63 grade. Too many nicks and dings and scratches on obverse, plus the surface flaw below the neck. Just my opinion.

Die polish lines. Business strike. The lines are much more pronounced on specimen strikes.

I agree Techwriter, when they describe the coin grade they say BU or Brilliant Uncirculated and then they qualify this with equating BU with MS-63 grade. My sense is that this is a bit of a stretch (maybe 60). Welcome to the forum. Yes thanks Pokermandude. Die polisher got a bit aggressive with the tools that day.

Business strike. Those are die polishing lines, and coins struck on newer dies can show these quite dramatically. Specimen strikes from 1991 are mirrored field with mirrored devices.
