Lincoln Cent Faint Letters And Partial Date ?

Hey guys

So I received this cent back in change over the weekend.. The first letters of liberty and IN of in god we trust are very faint .. The last two numbers in the date seem almost gone .
Anyways I set it aside since I hadn't seen one like it ..
I put it under a loupe prior to taking these photos a minute ago thinking maybe something had just wore the letters away but I don't see any wear or sighns of anything rubbing against the coin ..
So this made me a bit curious , thought maybe you guys could shine some light on this for me ..

I think you're right that it doesn't show enough wear to account for the missing devices.

It might be the result of a grease-filled die.

It's just one of those plastic 2x2 holders .. It's actually cracked but it was the first thing I came across the day I found the coin ...
