Another naive buyer getting sucked into at what they hope is an 1856 FE.

Again, this is not an 1856 simply from the shape of the O in OF. The 1856 letter O has thin side walls and the inside opening is squarish.

Wish there was a way to warn these bidders. They are spending hundreds of dollars on false hope.

I saw that...pretty sad. You can also tell they cut the upper loop of the 8 and then weathered the coin to try to hide it. I suppose we could report the auction?

Poor buyer. But then again they are partly to blame. I just don't see spending $400 plus on a coin that I can't clearly see.

To the seller's credit, he pulled the auction. I'm sure a few people emailed him.

Sent seller an email. Referenced material and diagnostics from Rick Snow's book (which I have) to show that his coin is a fake, although I think he must have known, looking at his excuse not to have it slabbed.

Good job!

Right--I found that highly suspect when verifying the coin would assure a higher bid--or not!

This is one of those cases where I'd use the "Block Seller" option.. if ebay had one.
