I found this ad on craigslist for an ungraded 1904 double eagle. Looks good to me, but I want to know if you guys think it's a good deal for $1500.

I avoid craigslist when buying any coins. At $1500 you should be able to get one of equal quality from your local dealer and without the risk of a scam.

I avoid craiglist for coins...Too many fakes out there. Get one certified, from a dealer or known ebay seller/store.

Very common date in which there are many others available at a better price.

The coin looks legit but that doesn't mean anything with coins on Craigslist.

Sorry- I didn't mean to imply I might buy it, I would never buy off Craigslist either- or spend $1500 at once. I just wanted to know what you all thought about it.

I know that you would never do that, but it was a good thing to bring up, as newer collectors may run into the same problem.

It looks fine to me but expensive. My nephew buys and sells coins on craigslist but I do not and can't therefore recommend it. 1904 G$20 pieces are the most common date date in the series and this coin currently melts at $1144 so $1500 for an uncertified piece is nuts unless it's a lock choice mint state specimen and the pictured piece might grade AU+ so forget it.

Never buy a coin on Craigslist...taking too much of a chance. You can get one near that price at a local coin show or dealer.
