Hey, just wondering if someone in the know (or knows Brian from ICCS personally), why don't they have a website? Just seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot not having one with a registry service like PCGS. I know myself if they had a registry service I would grade coins just to play the registry game :). Also do they have/going to have hard slabs? I would consider PCGS but just seems weird to ship them across the border when we have a Canadian grading company. heck I would help ICCS make a website if they would be interested lol.

Are you an RCNA member? In the recent interview with Brian he does mention each of those things, but I don't recall the answers immediately, which is why I asked.

Why not try CCCS in Montreal? They are a reputable TPG in Montreal and give you your choice of soft flips or hard slabs. They also have an informative website that has their pricing, grading standards and population reports.

http://www.canadiancoincertificatio...m/index4.phpI've heard some grumblings that CCCS grading was a bit shaky in the early days but can't say I've identified any problems with the several hundred that have passed through my hands and/or are in my collection. I've always found their grading to be quite comparable to ICCS.

While CCCS does have a website, it is somewhat dated... you cannot even see a photo of the hard slab service that they offer. The population report does not differentiate the major varieties.

Just finished reading the article in the CN Journal, Very good read and would recommend other ppl read it. One issue I do have with it is that I don't agree with a few things he said about not having a website. Cost of having a website is rather low and you can add lots of value to the current/potential customers.
My offer still stands for helping out for a website, so if you reading this Brian contact me and we can work something out :).

So I take cost is the main factor in not having a website, had an opportunity to visit their location a few years ago, very nice people and helpful but was amazed at no security, receptionist, and the amount of clutter for such an operation. I have never been to PGCS or NGC but I am almost certain it doesn't mirror ICCS office.

Remember the collecting community in Canada is WAYYY smaller than it is in the USA, first off we have about 1/10 the population, but we probably have 1/10000 the collecting community. I would call myself an avid collector however I have no professionally graded coins in my collection, and I am unsure if I would ever buy one.
needless to say the market space for graded coins is very small in Canada.

Personally a website just with information about ICCS, their services, mail in form, etc. would help out a lot of younger collectors just starting the hobby (I know my self when starting out wish they had one). I also think being more accessible it might even increase the amount of coins graded my ICCS which is a good thing.
I know this has been a talked about issue all the way back from 2010 (maybe longer), so it shows a somewhat demand for one.

ICCS is a very small opertion .. for years just Brian and his son. They would not have the manpower to maintain the website. They are comfortable with what they do/have and probably won't change. The grading probs with CCCS are still around .. you either love them or don't. They recognize many more varieties than others, but seem to bend to the wishes of the submitter, so things are certed that shouldn't have been.

Its pretty easy to maintain an informational website and could be done by a third party (like the RCNA website). Even a website with a simple registry could be easily maintained and would probably help them out with there population report since all the data would already be in a database (who knows maybe it already is). I personally have nothing against CCCS I just like the reputation that comes from ICCS. Just wish they had a few more services like PCGS including online validation, registry, and even hard slabs.

Quote: I also think being more accessible it might even increase the amount of coins graded my ICCS which is a good thing. My speculation (and that's all it is) is that they are perfectly happy with the quantity of business they have now and don't have a desire or need to increase their numbers. Any website has some cost involved (albeit it can be small), so why spend that money if it's not needed in their eyes. Personally, I'd love a service more like PCGS here in Canada. ace_ftw hit it on the head too: the market in Canada is really minuscule in comparison to anything in the US.
