I was wondering if the 2006p magnetic penny and the 2006 no logo magnetic pennies were released regionally . There are only 233,000 2006p mag. pennies and only 222 no logo magnetic pennies, I have literally searched tens of thousands of pennies and have never found either. The only one I have ,I bought. If you have found one (not bought)could you say where you found it. I'm trying to get an idea if they are regional. Thanks Dan

I never found the 2006P in circulation, but bought a set, 2006 Christmas Holiday Coin Set with Colourized 25ct (Regular Retail $19.99). All coins under $1 in the set had a P and so did the penny.

Those coins in the sets are considered Brilliant Uncirculated. I believe those sets are not included with the 233000 as they differ. A dealer in Hamilton found several rolls of 2006 no P no logo in his store about 2 years ago so I believe the numbers you mentioned above have probably doubled.

I have searched around 2 million pennies and have never found a 2006p magnetic in circulation coin. I found another 2006 no p , no logo magnetic this weekend while going through a 10$ bucket of unchecked pennies. I now have ten of those. I am on the West coast.

That should tell you how not rare these varieties are., but enjoy the hunt.

Well it seems that they are showing up across the country so my theory that they were released in one part of the country try doesn't hold water. I still they are fairly rare but not as rare as the 2015 Charlton coin guide says.Well I guess I'll keep looking, that's at least half the fun anyway .
Thanks Dan

I did not think they were that rare. I found close to twenty 2006P magnetic in rolls (several $1000 worth) and only one 2006 no logo magnetic in the Montreal area. I thought it was the 2006P non-magnetic that were super rare.

I had never found any '06-P pennies, and splurged many years ago by buying off ebay a non-P/magnetic. I have understood to date that the non-P/magnetic were actually the error coins, and only rarer by the P/non-magnetic; To elaborate, I had understood that the official mintage of 223,000 was for the steel core pennies minted before the RCM logo switch over - so that means that all the 2006-P/magnetic & 2006-non-P/magnetic were to account for the 223k number; I had also understood that a small amount of the blanks intended to be minted as 'P' coins were mistakenly struck with the wrong obverse - this is also how I understood the small number of pennies reported to be minted with the 'P' obverse, but being zinc cored coins were made. I have been holding off for some time now on buying a "regular" '06-P penny in the hopes of finding one at least at a local show to save on shipping. (ditto for '07 Zinc, and '10 steel)

Just to clarify....the super rare elusive cent is the 2006P Non Magnetic with a population last time I checked at 118. Next rare one from 2006 which I don't think is very rare at all would be the 2006 no p, no logo. This is the one the Hamilton dealer found a truck load of.

that would concur (to a point) with what I have understood: Rarest: 2006-P zinc core 2nd rarest: 2006 non-P/non-RCM steel core 3rd rarest: 2006-P steel core (official mintage of 223,000)
I too have gone through thousands of pennies since 2006, and never found any of these; Since it seems as though batches of coins were shipped to different areas of the country, the perceived rarity over the short term definitely would be geographic specific, but overall, in the end, it should be shown what is common, scarce, or rare.
In my books, all three of those are rare - but then again, I have never been able to find an old-composition 2012 toonie in the wild...

Quote: This is the one the Hamilton dealer found a truck load of. That dealer also has bought every one (raw and certified) that I have owned in my inventory for shows. Every year at Coin Expo, he buys them... Not sure why, maybe he is trying to keep the prices inflated?

The prices for the 2006 no P no Logo mag's have really dropped as of late. I remember when they were $60 min in any condition.
