Unless the coin has a value of US$200 you would have to have a VERY special reason for getting your coin slabbed.

It also very much depends on what country issued the coin. Different services have different competencies. If you are just looking to place coins in slabs for protection, http://www.leuchtturm.com/ sells several brands of DIY slabs, which work perfectly well.

Quote: Unless the coin has a value of US$200 you would have to have a VERY special reason for getting your coin slabbed. Some would argue this, for example what if I have a $75 coin, and ANACS is having their 2 free submission thing? Then, you only have to pay shipping, which means that you can submit low grade coins and still make money,

Ok....So for example a Victoria Rupee out of slab graded at MS60 I could probably sell on ebay for approx 30 euros maybe a liitle more! If it was slabbed at that grade could sell at approx 70 euros...the cost of slab and postage would exceed the difference yes?! Also where is the nearest grading company to me so I can work out postage cost etc...I'm in Spain Thanks for the info and advice, much appreciated! Saludos Paul

Both NGC and PCGS are present in Europe. Those are the two top american grading companies. I have used neither, but have spoken to both. Both require that you ship your coins to their european location. Paris for PCGS and Münich for NGC. You can find their pricing from their respective websites.

Palouche, if you're in Spain (like me) go for NGC, you'd have to send your coins to Germany but as you say, they price to have them slabbed should be less than the premium you'll get when selling them.
I don't agree with the less the $200 rule though, that makes no sense to me. Some people like slabs for safety, some only buy slabbed coins so if you had to buy raw but it doesn't fit with the rest of your collection then you'd need to get it slabbed, regardless of value.

Nice one thanks...I'll look into the costs of NGC. Personally I think that if you need some money and you need to resell quickly its better in a slab. Saludos Paul

Yes for sure, but beware if you need to sell quickly, that slabbing takes a long time (usually a month or longer).

It really depends on the TPG you use, some ask for it sent in a specific manner so I would double check on their site first, but if they accept it then courier is probably the best and fastest way.
