A local dealer friend lets me look through his Canadian stock for varieties. He doesn't price the varieties, and prefers I find something over another dealer as he resells these coins in bulk. This I got for $0.25: Edited by KurtS 01/18/2008 04:01 am

Thanks, and this one actually looks better than the photos, which pick up all the tiny nicks, but not the luster.

Kurt, I know nothing about Canadian coins. What am I looking at here? Jim

Jim, there are two varieties for the '49 1c. The rarer variety has the last A in GRATIA pointing to a denticle. In XF one variety lists at $1, and the "A to Denticle" at $50.

Nice find Kirk. I love going threw the dealers bargain bins. I think some just get tired of looking for varieties or not at all. I have picked up some nice over the last couple years. Nothing like that one thou.

I envy you guys, (in a way), because you can go "eye-ball" the dealers dishes with different types of coins, (world, specific country, etc), and look thru what is there, hopefully, "cherry-picking" a, or some goodies. I need some special euipment with me to do that. I can't focus on details unless they are VERY LARGE!. But, I used to do that. FUN! Must be the "milage". Dick

KutS, I now have a couple rolls of '49's to check thru. Wish me luck! I'll let you know if I find anything. Dick

Dick, wow--unless those are totally picked over, I bet you'll find something. Especially if those coins have been sitting around in the US for a while Also--be sure to check the 53, 54, and 55 cents for the various shoulder fold/ no shoulder fold varieties. Good luck!

KurtS, I just finished sorting them out into roll dates, or date/rolls. amd find that I have two full rolls of the '48's, nearly 5 rolls of the '47/ML, and have found several blunt and pointed "7"s. There are 8 rolls of the 49's, in this batch of 1800. There are a few more in the batch of 26 rolls that came in the day brfore. the likelyhood of finding something may be very good, because these coins are all evenly toned, ans appear to have been in a very dry climate, for many years, in (AZ). I have already found a couple of NSF. my camera setup is not to my liking, yet, so photos will be del;ayed. Eventually, they will get posted for all to see and enjoy, (or disclaim. I am open to both). I ewanted to alert you that if you have the Charltons catalogue, 2005,, or later, check in the back section in die varieties. They give a good explanation of what to look for, and have nice pictures to use to find the differences. Well worth the money! Dick

A NSF? I hope that's a '55! That would be seriously cool. With that many '49s I think you should find some ATs....maybe an easy dozen. On my end, I found 2 47 ML blunt, and 5 more '49 ATs--but still no '65 V4s. Funny how my dealer friend looks for those, but not the 49s? He didn't even want to know the value of the 49s, and charged me a dime apiece.

KurtS,when the door of opportunity opens, enter. it doesn't open for just anyone! Lest we all have hoards of '09S-VDB's! Later: Kurt, I just checked, and not only is it a '55, there aree two others: a '54NSF, and a '53NSF.. Also ran into sone marked as HR. Guess what? Another '48 between. Looks like my flip files will have to br revisited! Dick

Wow...a 55 NSF is a seriously rare coin! I have yet to find one. The incidence of 49ATs is higher than your "hoard", which is a bit puzzling. Perhaps I did luck out?
