Hi Just won these two Victorian one cent coins on ebay this evening. I must admit not my usual thing but I saw the these and had to have a little bid. Apologies for the sellers tiny pictures, obviously the one on the left! I know very little about these so over to you. thanks

the 1896 looks to be at least Au50-55, but might be cleaned. Post better pictures when you receive them!

Thanks will do. I know there's not much you can tell from pictures like that.
It was the lustre that jumped out at me.
They cost me the equivalent of $12 Canadian, so not much at risk really.

Well here it is: A lovely old thing and brighter in real life than the photos. Not cleaned as far as I can tell. The thing above the N in ONE is a piece of lint/fluff. Can't decide whether it would class as AU or Low MS. The crown and jewels are very sharp. Over to the experts.........

REV looks like it has some parallel lines running across it. maybe not "cleaned" but to my untrained eyes it looks to have had a rub or two.
still a very nice grab for $12

Could you tell us what the true colour is. The 1st above little pic shows "blast bright gold" whereas this last detailed photos has the colour completely different and dark compared to the above.
That's why I hesitate to guess a grade here.
Is the center reverse polished a bit..? ..because your bottom pic shows a lack of luster in the rev center which could be interpreted as some finger rubbing .."or not".. I can't tell for sure here..
Otherwise it shows absolutely few contacts and absolutely no wear on it.. The obv looks near perfect..and complete luster throughout..

The 1896 is really nice , at least AU+(probably MS60) as I don't see any obvious wear, cleaned? maybe but would guess at no. As for the 1888: from small photo one could guess a VF and doesn't appear cleaned or dipped. Sorry, best I can see. Really NICE for such a price!
