Hello everyone. New guy in this section of the forum but I've been a collector of ancient coins for a couple of years now. I've been buying coins and artifacts from Judea, Greek, Roman and Byzantine with only artifacts from ancient Egypt. While not in the best condition I finally scored a Pontius Pilate coin off Vcoins. I have found Hussam at Zurqieh to be an excellent dealer and I've made quite a few purchases from him. Again not the best condition but I can't wait to get it in my display case.

Nice coin. Zurqieh has nice coins but I've been hesitant to buy from him because he's in the Middle East and I was afraid of not receiving the coins due to the strict export laws there. Have you had any problems getting your coins?

Echizento.
Never once have I had an issue and I've purchased quite a bit from him. Nice guy and within five to seven days the product is at my door.
I highly recommend him and I'm very cautious where I buy from.

Nice pick-ups, TMK65. We have been, incrementally, seeing more references to - and postings of - Judaean coins on this board lately. I hope that trend continues. Keep 'em coming.

You've got some nice coins there, TMK65.
I just got an Agrippa and a Licinius coin yesterday from Hussam.
He's got some great stuff in his shop.
Enjoy your coins!

Very nice coin! Out if curiosity, how does one determine this to be an issue of Pilate? From what I read, the only solid proof of his existence was a cornerstone unearthed from the area in 1961.

Is that a suggestion that we show coins from our collections, even if they are not recent purchases? Or is this for items about which we have questions? I'm still new enough to the list that I'm not sure whether or not showing what we've got is going to be well received.

Finn.
From what little I know the stone and the coins are the only examples that he ever existed. I read quite a bit about these coins before buying one I trusted to be authentic.

Quote: Is that a suggestion that we show coins from our collections, even if they are not recent purchases? Or is this for items about which we have questions? Either/Or, as Kierkegaard said. Feel free to show 'em off - 'tho in a new post so we're not stepping on TMK65's toes. Personally I love when we see coins from off the beaten paths. I know Ron appreciates them too. Lots of teaching and learning to be done here, so please don't hesitate to enlighten us. For me, Judaeans are one of several "what if" collecting roads - areas I was tempted at one point to delve into but never did (and never will, since my collecting area is narrow). Since I don't collect them, I enjoy them vicariously through others. I hope you'll post some. P.S. None of that "new enough to the list" stuff, Irbguy. At 185 posts (and growing), you're an old war horse here.

This is good information as I'm new here as well.
The Pilate coin will be my eighth Judean coin to that part of my collection. There are a few I would like to discuss and learn more about.

This is one of two shelves where my coins from ancient Judea sit. Herod the Great, Mattathias Antigonus,Herod Agrips I, Alexander Jannaeus and a Widows Mite make up the top shelf.

Pontius was the first pilate. He probably flew those early canvas and string types.
TMK 65: Actually, that is one of the nicest of it's genre that I have seen. I would love to have it in my collection.
