1990-D Nickel - Improper Metal Mixing?

Trying to figure out whats going on here. Ive saw many pennies with improper alloy mixing but never on a nickel. At first I thought lines were scratches but upon closer inspection, the coin is still smooth and they seem to go behind the letters..etc. Also, the coin is actually darker where the lines are, thats not a shadow. The edge of the coin is darker as well on the upper portion.
Any help appreciated!

Looks like a bad mix of the copper/nickel on the stock material.

nice find !.. very cool....I wonder if improper mix effects the coins weight?

Ill throw it on the scale this even when I get home. Didnt think of that. Its a very nice looking coin in your hand.

I don't think it would effect the weight any truly noticeable amount.
