Either that, or I don't know WHERE they could've come from.

So basically, I picked up a bunch of 1 dollar bills from the bank today for Where's George, and I'd say out of all of them, about 10% are in REALLY rough shape (not gonna mark those) and another 10% are pretty beat up, but I'll still mark them. Even the nicest ones (the 2013s) are still wrinkled and none of them are uncirculated. Is there any way I can avoid getting ratty old bills ready for destruction in the future?

PS, if any of you wonder where I got the title from, the majority of the bills I see getting spent at school are beat up since the people at my school have no regard for preserving money.

I'd have to agree, kids at my school also crumple up the bills. Hurts my eyes.

Ah, okay!

I thought maybe you spent a bunch of marked bills at school and got them back from the bank.

I crumple up notes and shove them in my pocket all the time. I even use them as notepads in my truck. If it wasn't for people using/destroying money on a daily basis there wold be nothing to collect. The destruction is what makes nice examples collectible. That's why things that are typically sold as collectible rarely maintain their original value.

True. And you can also find wilds and older bills in circulated straps.

And there's the reason I still ask for the $50 dollar straps of ones, they're always circulated and I at least have a chance of finding a wild bill in there, but that hasn't happened yet...

Ironically enough, I bought lunch from school today with a 10, asked for change in ones, and wouldn't you know it, got a 2006 star note! It's from a really high run, so I won't keep it, but I was able to get some bills in decent condition for Where's George from the least expected source!
