johnb1 New Member United States 15 Posts	Posted 01/18/2008 01:21 am is the canadian cent the same copper content as the Lincoln Cent? did they reduce it in 1982 like the Lincoln Cent? I try to save the copper cents and would like to know which canadian cents if any I should save? Report this Post to the Staff

ouzo66 Valued Member United States 60 Posts	Posted 01/18/2008 09:05 am The current Canadian cent is 94% steel, 1.5% nickel, and 4.5% copper (plating). There is website that although it doesn't give the past compositions, it does give the overall melt value. Type "coinflation" in a search at it will come up. Topher Pillar of the Community Canada 965 Posts	Posted 01/18/2008 09:28 am If you want to save based on copper content, then save all through 1996. After that date it went to mostly zinc. That only lasted a few years, as they've been mostly copper-plated steel. They don't have a ring to them anymore, and are a worse thud than the Zincolns. They just don't feel right. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 01/24/2008 7:35 pm It get a bit confusing Up through 1996 they were bronze (but they reduced the weight I think in 1986) From, 1997 - 2001 they are copper plated zinc. In 2002 they are bronze plated steel In 2003 they went back to copper plated zinc then in later 2003 to date (once they changed the queens portrait) they went to bronze plated zinc. Tis is according to the SCWC but I think it may be in error. I think Topher is correct and that last listing should be copper plated steel. Report this Post to the Staff
