Can non machinable mail be dropped off in a mail box or do you have to hand them over the counter to the postal worker?

It can be dropped off at a blue box but make sure it is clearly marked NONMACHINABLE and has proper postage. I use a red ink rubberstamp to mark my nonmachinable envelopes on both sides.

Over the years I've sent my Son things via USPS and UPS. They are mostly toys for his kids and always stamped Fragile, Handle with Care. Usually in Red. Regardless, about 25% get somewhat smashed, dropped, etc.
