I know, I feel like I'm always asking about verdigris. I've seen it a ton on my copper pennies (makes sense) but never on a 90%er. Usually when there's green on a 90% coin it's due to PVC damage. I know the 90% silver coins do have 10% copper in them though. The other day I picked up a uncirculated roll of 1964 Kennedy halves. About half the roll looked fine. 5 of them had some spots (I thought milk spots but maybe not). The last 5 had single dark green dots (looks like verdigris). Since I had never seen verdigris on a 90% silver coin I questioned the seller who claimed she simply opened the roll in 1964 and stored them so that ruled out PVC damage IMO. As I asked more questions it turns out she had them stored in the attic (humid) for the past 50 years. I assume they got verdigris from that, but like I said I've never seen it before on a 90%er. We agreed on a partial refund so I'm not upset with the seller but not I have several coins with green on them. Do I have to worry about the other coins eventually turning even if I store them properly now? I made it so the coins with green spots are no longer touching the good coins. Verdigris per se is usually either a basic copper carbonate or copper chloride, and would not normally be found on silver coins.
But...?

While I have never found verdigris on 90% coins I have found 90% coins with a green tinge on them, but very rarely.

Sounds like I need to get a picture up. It sucks they have the green spots because otherwise they are great..tons of luster.

IMHO , If you stored 90% silver coins in a very bad environment and loaded with PVC, you will have verdigris .
Bad Thad correct me if I'm wrong.

I know I've had green spots on my Morgan and Peace dollars. But I cleaned them with acetone and can't find any to photograph. |

Here are a few more pictures. Sorry for the bad quality. There's a "spot" on JKF's head and I can see some small dots of green. It's hard to capture in a picture.   |
