Look at the reverse of this CC Morgan. There is a cut in the rim and the inner metal show looks greenish. Is that how silver should look? I've never cut into any of my silver dollars before and thus have no comparison.

It looks a bit off, but not too bad. Not that I've ever cut into a silver coin before, either.

Joe2007, the example you pointed out has some pretty good rim damage on the reverse, yet shows no trace of this on the obverse. Hmmm...

What do you all think of the 1880 or the 1889, with BIN prices in the low to mid 30's?

Yea, I don't know what is up with the color inside the damage on the 78 CC. Definitely looks strange.

Man, looking through all of his coins, half of me thinks they are real (or at least most of them). The tarnish looks really believable on some which I, yet to this point, have not found on a modern chinese counterfeit. But the other half of me thinks something is up.

If these do turn out to be a new generation of counterfeits, I am a little worried about this hobby moving forward.

The Chinese character for country is wrong, it seems that they missed when whoever made the hub? So the Fat man dollar is a fake! The other thing I see wrong with it is the denticles don't appear correct.

Nothing to poison a hobby better than to flood the market with Chinese fakes. I am worried about buying online. The old time dealers won't be fooled who handle their coins but online buyer might be fooled and possibly cheated. If that happens to beginners a few times they might pick up their ball and go home. I think ebay should step up and try to police there system better. I know that is probably an impossible job. I do remember when ebay was pretty much based entirely on trust before Paypal.

All this about counterfeit is concerning to me and like others have stated for the collectors that are new. I have been collecting for many years but have just recently become aware of exactly how much counterfeiting is going on out there. I think there should be more information available to all about the possibility of fakes. I know it might not be the best solution but why not a list of "KNOWN" ebayers that are selling fakes or at least a list of those to be concerned with. I personally like to purchase on-line as it broadens the selection that is available in my area.

Just my 2 cents.....

When they fake the coins, the slabs and the grades I don't know if any are safe buying from ebay or other online outfits that have no reputation to guard. Only solution is to stop going to Chinese take-out joints because this is where conspiracy has gone world wide.
