Pics are from a treasure hunting forum where the finder wanted this graded. It's uncleaned -- only some soft toothbrush work to get the mud out. He commented that the reverse carries a much stronger die strike than the obverse. XF?
I'll say VF. The obverse got pretty banged up, with lots of hairlines. The details are not sharp and the denticles around 8 o'clock is worn nearly smooth. The reverse fared a little better but lots of scratches detract.
I'd call it XF detail, cleaned (harshly) and scratched, net grade probably VF20.
But on the bright side, this is a somewhat better date, No Motto gold piece from the New Orleans mint. A terrific find, in any condition. If I were the finder this would make my year!
