Thanks for posting. The article at the link is quite good. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had a fascination with this coin since childhood. I actually found one of the fakes in circulation while searching rolls, and of course for a few moments I wondered if I had struck it rich. In those pre-Internet days, it was not so well known that fakes were common, or at least it was not known to me, but one of my parents knew the magnet test, so my fantasies did not last long. But I still have it, and even though it does not look so convincing now, it worked for my ten year old self.

Your coin looks pretty nice for an, ahem, faux example. The one in the link is gonna do well, I think. Something to look forward to when the snow is flying and all the Christmas gifts have been opened (and all that leftover turkey has been thrown out)!

Best Regards,

George

Thanks. If I had Bill Gates type money I would definitely want to take that thing home.

I see another coin has been added to the roster, an AU53 NGC example "discovered in 1944" and that remained in the same family for more than 60 years. That makes a total of six examples. Cool coins!

Best Regards,

George

I see this coin has had nearly 750 page views and it's not even open for bidding yet!

Here's a story about my personal coin hero and the man who owns the finest known 43 bronze's from each mint. A very good read...

That's a great story about Bob Simpson, thanks for posting that. I'm not sure I buy that bit about NGC starting the Plus grading system because of his coins, however; that's a new one on me. I thought it was a reaction to PCGS launching Plus grading (actually Secure Plus, I think it was).

Best Regards,

George
