Coinsplus, Thank you for posting all of this. The info is very interesting and the 'coin' varieties look great. I love the use of the blue (I'm getting tired of the RCM using red) and the fish token looks nice too.

Has anyone found any of these for sale yet?

Just noticed the upcoming Geoffrey Bell auction for part of these test tokens. They are the highlight of this auction. I love the way they plagiarize a lot of my own sentences and description of the coins for their auction that I posted here in this topic I created three years ago. I don't know if I should take this as a compliment? In courtesy, they should have at least acknowledge the coin community forum for using the sentences and description for their auction and their sellers' benefit. In any event, those are NOT my test tokens in the auction, as I have been receiving a lot of interest and inquiries from fellow members http://www.torontocoinexpo.ca/docum...ion_lr_1.pdf

Since there are 250 sets, although many are in foreign hands I presume the starting price is very optimistic at a certain price more would appear on the market place. It's good you rebooted this topic before this auction, more info for collectors to bid accordingly but still a cool piece

Yes, I like the way they are describing a never before discovered test token when they write: "As of now, only one of the poppy coins has been documented by a collector who was able to obtain a complete set of tokens from the conference. The only other tokens, one example of each of the twenty five cent size, with the enamelled flag and the fifty cent size, with the enamelled angel fish, have been documented, certified and offered here."
And the BIGGEST kicker in the slick advertisement, "This is a rare opportunity to obtain a here-to-fore undocumented and unavailable pair of official Royal Canadian test token."
My comments: 'UNDOCUMENTED'?!?!? This was DOCUMENTED BY ME, here on this forum - three years ago!! They better get their facts straight here.
They should state in their advertisement that there are 250 sets issued, which they so conveniently did NOT plagiarize. And yes, the majority of those sets did go into foreign government employee hands.

I had some phone conversations with other collectors of weird and wonderful coins about this upcoming auction item, basically we all agree that at a large currency conference there is no way the RCM would make only 2 or 3 sets, they were used a promotion to hype their technology to garner new business. The RCM creates coins and planchets for at least 20 to 40 countries, you just wouldn't create a limited item, who would you give them to, I forgot about your post until today and my earlier comment of more info for those who are thinking of bidding. There is a really rare 50 cent RCM token with a ram or something similar that is 2 or 3 known that sells for insane amounts, if the starting price was 1000 it might go goofy but who knows the first 2005P nonmag cent went for over 20 K you can buy all you want around 2K

The starting bid price $2,500 plus taxes and buyers premium is ridiculous for a partial and incomplete set. I'd be willing to part ways for my complete set.

Generally in these instances as with the 20005 P NONMAG penny the auctioneer promoted as only one known two bidders went gaga and it sold for over 20K then they started to come out of the woods. Ether there will be no bids or be bid to goofy range due to description, I hope the auction goes goofy for your sake.

I just don't like Geoffrey Bell's DISHONEST slick marketing skills where they plagiarized my description, specifications and sentences and pretend they found this amazing discovery. They should state 250 sets were issued, but seemed to have conveniently not to plagiarize that material fact for these test tokens. And obviously, the Geoffrey Bell team cannot think for themselves using their own words, and had to also copy my title with the same quotation marks of the Royal Canadian Mint "Colour Technology" Test Tokens. Besides that, I am indifferent if these tokens go through the roof or are worth a few bucks. I am livid at that fact that they STOLE my words for their own self interest and benefit, without acknowledging that they obtained this information from my posting on this community forum. All they care about is achieving top dollar and fame. Don't pick and choose what you want to plagiarize, and forget to state 250 sets were made. Because of this I would never use their services or purchase from them. Integrity and principle is paramount for any business, which they completely lack. So much for them stating the following in their catalogue. "Our integrity and honesty are paramount to us at all times and we are not reticent to tap the top expertise in North America to help us with attribution."

Well 3500 plus juice and tax, close to estimate, quite a lot for a recent RCM token

Paying over $4000 with buyers premium plus taxes, and that is for just two of the three tokens. That would make it around $5,000 - $6,000 for the full set. I'd rather spend my money on a RCM 1908 Specimen Set than for these modern test tokens. I'll throw my full test token set into some auction.

@Coinsplus: Did you ever contact Geoffrey Bell and express your displeasure with their use of your information?
It wouldn't surprise me to learn that an underling at the company wrote the description and didn't cite sources to those who reviewed the catalogue. The details should have been checked/sourced, but things do slip by.
I wouldn't trash the entire company or call them dishonest when the mistake was likely made by a single individual.

Actually - they probably consulted outside the auction house for the description (e.g., they sometimes use me to validate and describe errors). Whomever they consulted, probably found the CCF post through a Google search (CCF is designed well, to capture Google searches)...
Coinsplus, did you even try to contact GBA directly, before you posted here?

I didn't bother contacting them. There is no point as it was already done. I got messages galore from fellow members on this forum thinking it was my tokens that I put up for sale with Geoffrey Bell auctions as they not only used my words but also described a collector who attended the conference that managed to obtain the set. So, when someone puts 2 + 2 together, the assumed seller was me. Which is not the case. I posted this back in 2015, wanting to share my findings with fellow collectors, but when someone takes and plagiarize all my information (title, description and specifications) for their own COMMERCIAL purpose especially to garner interest in their auction without citing sources, in my opinion, this just lacks integrity, honesty, and credibility on their part. Pure laziness and greed. No matter who it is, anyone that has completed high school and/or post-secondary education knows that plagiarism is wrong and unethical. I have other modern RCM Test Tokens which have never been seen before, and I am hesitant to make those known on this forum because of this bitter taste this recent auction leaves me with. I apologize for this rant.
