hard to tell from those pictures. perhaps something was spilled on it or it sat in a puddle of cola on the floor of a car. not that I've ever done that

from that picture I cant tell if its eaten away or just stained a different color

At the Mint this coin was made near an open window and that is the Sun hitting the building on one side.
