I've been offered this coin for around $20 - is it worth it? Is it even real? Thank you!

As far as the value is concerned, it's well worth the $20 offer. I only paid $7.50 for mine but mine is G-VG while this one looks very nice. I'd gladly pay the $20 to upgrade my set!
As far as real or fake.........I believe it to be real, but my opinion should not be trusted, as my experience (and eyeballs) aren't worth much. The only way I'd be positive one way or the other would be to actually have it in my hand and give it a proper exam.

Its a variety 1, which has a Red Book value of $20 for VG 8, and it looks a lot better than VG 8, so I would say it is worth the price. The variety 2 is much more expensive, and more likely to be counterfeited; so I would NOT consider this one to be a likely candidate for counterfeiting, but to check, weight should be 5 grams, and it should not be magnetic. I don't see any glaring problems with images, so I would not suspect it of being a counterfeit.

Something about this buffalo doesn't sit right with me. I could be wrong ,but IMHO the reverse doesn't look right. And I would say $20 for this nickel is much too cheap.

I've looked at the pictures a couple times this morning. My initial thought was the reverse didn't feel right. I agree with above that it still seems not right.

I can't put my fingers on a reason, but when I look at the pictures something in the back of my head starts setting off warning flashers. I can't say for sure it's a fake but something strikes me as wrong.

The wear patterns bother me. I'm looking at my T1 and although I have little to no wear on the animal or the face, the UNITED...ICA, motto, etc aren't nearly so bold. It's like the strike is a little too good. Know what I mean?

To me the coin looks as if it was once a darker color or had some type of crud on it and was then cleaned .. It has a full horn and looks to be a higher grade yet I don't see the slightest trace of luster on this coin .. I'm wondering if the dark color of the reverse is causing the letters and details to appear a bit bolder / sharper and therefore making them look a little strange ?

Not sure either but for that price, if real, great deal.

with Just Carl. If it's within your coin budget, I'd regret the lost opportunity more than having a really good copy.

Not an expert on these but to me it looks like the hind legs are too thin.

Interesting. Can you tell us about the seller?

It is offered on a local auction ( ebay like) website with a starting bid of around $20, the seller is respected but numismatics is not his speciality so he might be selling a copy or a fake without actually knowing that. Honestly I'm not sure what to do, I'll probably pass.

Looks very real to me. I'd have no problem buying it.
