I just discovered the creator of Bugs Bunny, Charles Gustav Thorson was born in Winnipeg Aug.29 1890 and died in Vancouver, British Columbia Aug.7,1966. He spent 10 yrs in animation creating numerous characters, best known are Elmer Fudd and Snow White. he was also known as a political cartoonist and author of children's books. 4I came across this by reading up on the $20 4 $20 coins. I wasn't sure how many were issued. So here is the Canadian tie in for LT. I feel better there is a Canadian connection, at least the mint isn't minting random stuff with no Canadian back story.I was lucky to stumble across this info. So Bugs is Canadian I just found an interesting article on him under his name & university of Manitoba library. Apparently he had a tragic life and made virtually no money from his Disney & Warner Brothers cartons. He also created Raggedy Ann & Andy. He did work for Eaton's as well. He is also responsible for the Pop Eye character, the bio also indicates Snow White was based on sketches of a Winnipeg waitress. It would be great to drop by the university of Winnipeg library and see his sketches in archives. Apparently Charles only lived in the states for a decade. Seems like an interesting person. Too bad the mint doesn't put this info out!! Edited by pocket change 50 10/28/2015 7:46 pm

@ John Her Majesty is on all sorts of pop culture coins via the NZ mint already, the worst being the just released hoverboard. At least Bugs has a longer tradition and is still beloved by todays cartoon watchers. I think Bugs will still be loved by serval generations to come. Where the hoverboard, I seriously doubt. The real point is Canadians have had a profound impact on Pop Culture, and are unknown for their accomplishments. This is why the mint shouldn't stop the info on the coa!!

Understand, but Canada should be above this, the RCM is a national mint.

The Hoverboard, Almanac, Pepsi Excellent and all the related stuff - these are just current items, that people remembered about them even not due to the movie, but cause mass media awakened the interes. Good for fans or people that with to make a money on it. I like the movie and able to watch it again and again...but absolutely do not care about "items". Better to see some coins from 2015 the way as people in 1985 imagine them. Quote: This is why the mint shouldn't stop the info on the coa!! Correct, but Buggs Bunny is under Looney Tunes trade mark. RCM paid for the licence to use the characters on the coins, so Mint allowed to put the information, that detailed in the agreement. Nothing more or less.

I thought everyone knew Bugs Bunny was a Canadian, we used to call him the "B" Man, .....he liked that.
The 1st time I met him I was hitch hiking to Sydney Nova Scotia from Halifax with some bald dude. I never got his name but I remember he liked to sing Bruce Springsteen songs. He wasn't a bad guy to travel with but man he got some charged up the 1st time we met the "B" Man. Even after Bugs went his separate way the bald dude kept mumbling something crazy about a hair cut.
Several years later while I was in the Canadian military I was doing some work over in Kuwait. Low and behold there's the B Man popping up out of a hole in the sand asking me how to get someplace in the States. I can't remember if I helped him or not. That was one cool bunny, never got worked up over much of anything.
Anyway I could go on but I'm sure we all have more important things to do. To summarize: Yes Bugs Bunny is a friend of mine, I'll most likely see him at Christmas.
You guys must remember the song about him, it goes something like this:
Bugs Bunny was a Capricorn He ate organic food He believed in fun and peace And never wore no shoes
Long ears, floppy feet, And a funky bunch of friends......
I can't remember the rest.

A team of paleontologists discovered fossils of a never-seen-before species of beaver in eastern Canada. They discovered fossilized teeth and a skull of a beaver that lived nearly 28 million years ago. This beaver had a rabbit-like skull with long ears. The fossils were described in the journal Annals of Carnegie Museum. "While there is relatively little castorid (beaver species) diversity today, there are hundreds of species (many of which are really important members of their faunal communities) in the fossil record of the Northern Hemisphere".
