What on earth? Cracked die? I find it odd since was assassinated via headshot that this looks like a bullet going through his head and out the front...

It's called an elongated plating bubble or blister. Post 82 zinc cents are plagued by them. Nice location on yous though but you would be amazed at how many lincolns have things going on that make him look shot in the head. I call them assassination cents

In the world in 1983, the US mints had a lot of plating issues. Our country is so rich we spend over $.02 to produce a penny; with poor results.

This thing has no lip around half the coin and is riddled with weird stuff.
