I wasn't intending on buying more coins at the moment but I saw this one which was pretty cheap (less than £15) and I have been looking for one for ages. There are lots of examples out the, some good ones which seem to be overpriced by the market, and some bad which I didn't want anyway.

This one was cheap and I thought had eye appeal (except for the little bits of green...advice on whether you think I should leave that alone or try to do something with it welcome) so I snapped it up. Given that I don't usually buy this sort of thing from ebay I thought I would ask if everyone thinks it is OK and for the attribution.

Seller was French and described it as :

Monnaie commemorative romaine de l' Empereur Constantin de 330 à 346:
Avers : Buste casque et cuirasse de Rome à gauche : "URBS ROMA".
Revers : La louve à gauche allaitant Remus et Romulus sous les Dioscures, Castor et Pollux.
Dessous les lettres de l' atelier de frappe Treves .
Très bien centree, et belle patine turquoise.
Diamètre : 17 mm.
Poids : 2,4 gr.
Achats multiples = Frais de livraison minimum.

Most of that seems self explanatory but no RIC number and I am not good with that stuff having virtually no reference library with regards to these coins.

David, see here for a similar: http://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=155753

If the green is not powdery (and it doesn't look like it would be), it's likely verdigris. Some folks are fine with some verdigris on their AE coins, others attempt to remove or reduce it.

Very nice example, I wouldn't worry about the green deposits they don't look like bronze disease. Lately this type has been getting more attention than in the past which has brought the prices up.

Thanks all, glad it meets with your approval :)

Hearing how cheap these used to be (even much better ones) I couldn't bring myself to pay £100 for a nearly mint one, and that seems to be the asking price on V-coins. I think this will be fine as an example... should I consider some other city commemoratives? Perhaps it needs a Constaninopolis victory standing next to it...are there any other notable ones to look out for?

You have a nice example, David, that shows everything distinctive about this type. No need to hold out for mint state. And to get it for your price is terrific.

Very nice coin David
Yours has a STAR on the wolfs shoulder which should be included in the attribution, RIC 542, STAR.
There are other symbols in the issue which could form an area of collecting for you, cheap and quite interesting.
Here's mine with a Crescent on the shoulder, a little rough but you can just see it.
